Loewe, Joel ben Judah Loeb (Brill, Joel ben Judah Loeb)
(1762-1802)
   German Hebrew writer, grammarian and exegete. He was born in Berlin, and joined Moses Mendelssohn's Haskalah movement. In 1791 he was appointed principal of the Wilhelms-Schule in Breslau. He published an introduction and commentary to Mendelssohn's German trans-lation of the Psalms, a scientific grammar of biblical Hebrew, and epigrams in the style of the book of Proverbs. He also translated the Passover Haggadah into German.
